Do you feel completely paralyzed when looking at your daily to-do list? Are you struggling to start basic, simple tasks?

People often confuse burnout with executive dysfunction. While they look nearly identical on the outside, they happen for very different neurological reasons. Burnout is a state of chronic nervous system depletion. Executive dysfunction is a structural struggle with the brain's internal management system (the prefrontal cortex).

Take this quick diagnostic quiz to see which profile your brain aligns with more.

Section A: Task Initiation & Focus

  1. Do you find it physically painful or deeply uncomfortable to start a task that doesn't actively interest you? (Yes / No)

  2. Do you struggle to estimate how long a task will take, often running late or rushing at the last minute? (Yes / No)

  3. Do you find yourself constantly losing your keys, phone, or forgetting what you walked into a room for? (Yes / No)

Section B: Energy & Emotional Depletion

  1. Do you feel utterly exhausted even after getting a full 8 hours of sleep? (Yes / No)

  2. Have you become increasingly cynical, detached, or numb regarding your job or hobbies you used to love? (Yes / No)

  3. Do you feel a sense of intense dread or physical heaviness on Sunday evenings or before starting your week? (Yes / No)

Scoring Your Results

  • If you answered "Yes" mostly to Section A: Your brain is likely struggling with Executive Dysfunction. This is common in ADHD, autism, or high-stress environments where the brain's filtering system is severely overloaded. You don't necessarily need more rest; you need external structures, dopamine scaffolding, and micro-stepping to lower the barrier to task entry.

  • If you answered "Yes" mostly to Section B: Your brain is likely experiencing Burnout. This is a chronic nervous system overload. You cannot "productivity hack" your way out of burnout. Your brain and body are demanding a radical reduction in cognitive load and genuine, nervous-system-level rest.
